Sparingly 03:35
I'm used to being far away; not used to home. Just try it once and go back. Lacking in transportation, so walk for now People moving sucks, walk for now But I don't know you What would I amount to? Diverting gaze; it's a really really long way to the other side where you'd be hard pressed to see anything. Bills are due. Take away the water. But not from us. We need to keep the scores up for our lovely patrons But I don't know you What would I amount to? Diverting gaze, it's a really really long way to the other side where you'd be hard pressed to see anything Anything that you'd be proud to say you did I know you could not see me as you passed by I can't believe you

Withstand 03:42
What a stunning picture, we couldn't see you despite all the efforts made in conjunction with your family They would beg to differ Don't hold your breath It's so hard to be left out, I know (x2) It's a solemn swear from me that you'll try again; to be whole again Creeping forwards the time goes, there's a chance I'll see where to I won't ask how but I expect answers It's so hard to be left out, I know (x4) (They would beg to differ. Don't hold your breath. We're in this together.)

I can't see the sky without it breakin' It's there in contrast I'm with you The fan's off; sleep won't come tonight. But that's alright. The conversation conceals the truth There's nothing that prevents this rouse. Keep the time cause I can't keep it for you Regardless I will The fan's off; sleep won't come tonight. But that's alright. The conversation conceals the truth There's nothing that prevents this rouse. I can't imagine you in my mind but there you are every time. I could be you You wouldn't be Be still my heart. Rewind. Let fall. It's hard to hear the cries inside you You see, the trees don't fall without you I can't see the sky without it breakin' It's there in contrast I'm with you It may appear like I don't have the strength Inside I'm crying, but I'll pull through (But I'd be lying) The wind blew us apart for the better (If I said to you) And now I'm alright, yet still no better than you.

about

Detwasuru is a word I made up.

"Detwa" is the phonetic spelling of pronouncing Detroit in French, and "suru" means "to do" in Japanese. You add this to nouns to make them a verb that normally would only make sense within a specific context. In my mind the word essentially means nothing, but makes me think of my time in Detroit being isolated in an apartment away from actual people who live in Detroit and experience it on a day to day basis. My limited experience with the actual city of Detroit is largely what Sparingly is about.

The reasoning behind the name is mainly because I recorded these songs while living in Detroit for 2 years, while also during the peak of my fascination with Japanese culture (mainly video games and anime) as I was learning the language in preparation for my trip to Japan the following year.

The music for Sparingly and Withstand were written when I was still living in Chicago in 2012 prior to moving to Detroit, whereas Kickin' It Hard was written late 2014 when I finally decided to record the whole EP. I ended up writing vocals for all three songs at this time as well.

The primary reason why this EP took so much longer than I wanted it to was because of my dissatisfaction with mixing. Thankfully I ended up getting my friend Alan to help me with this and now even after all this time, it's been totally worth it!

I hope you all enjoy this record as much as I do.
